Boston Holds Off Mavericks, Takes 3-0 Lead in Finals

WEB Expert Recap and Game Analysis

After a thrilling victory over the Dallas Mavericks in Game 3 of the 2024 NBA Finals, the Boston Celtics are just one win away from hoisting the Larry O'Brien trophy. The Celtics, who held off a spirited comeback attempt from the Mavericks, now lead the series 3-0.

The Celtics got off to a strong start, leading by as many as 21 points in the fourth quarter. However, the Mavericks refused to go away quietly, chipping away at the deficit and even taking the lead with just minutes remaining. But the Celtics were able to regain their composure and close out the victory.

For the Celtics, it was a balanced scoring effort, with six players scoring in double figures. Jason Tatum led the way with 25 points, while Jaylen Brown added 22. Giannis Antetokounmpo, who was recently named the NBA's Most Valuable Player, had another strong performance with 20 points, 12 rebounds, and eight assists.

The Mavericks were led by Luka Dončić, who finished with 30 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists. Kristaps Porziņģis also had a solid game, with 21 points and eight rebounds. But it wasn't enough to overcome the Celtics' superior depth and experience.

Game 4 of the Finals is scheduled for Monday night in Dallas. If the Celtics can win, they will claim their 18th NBA championship, tying them with the Los Angeles Lakers for the most all-time. But if the Mavericks can win, they will send the series back to Boston for a Game 5.
